It's summer!! Let's avoid computer problems and enjoy it while we can. In this month's brief newsletter you'll find my CURRENT favorite products and some of the most common problems users experience.
My Favorites...
Virus Checker... Norton 2002 - This checker does a good job catching viruses and is relatively "bug-free". The automatic live update works great too.
Internet Provider... RoadRunner. It's fast, consistent, and reliable.
PC Maker... Compaq This manufacturer's reviews haven't been great, but their current product line is well-designed and stable running Windows XP. Compaq servers are good as I've mentioned in previous newsletters.
Microsoft Operating System... Windows XP Professional I have my complaints about it, but crashes are rare and it is user friendly. As an upgrade, I would think twice unless you are sure everything you have-hardware and software- is compatible.
Network Operating System... Novell A solid product that run years trouble-free.
Printer manufacturer... HP The inkjets work well and are reliable, although the color cartridges are too pricey. HP Lasers are the industry standard. HP needs to work at keeping up with Microsoft Operating systems in their printer driver development. The newer drivers for XP are usually not Microsoft certified and somewhat buggy. For older printers, XP usually has the driver and installs the printer effortlessly for you.
Top 5 Common Computer Problems/Issues...
Viruses damage files on the computer- Klez couldn't be cleaned from needed files.
Hard drive fails or develops bad spot- ALL computers will eventually experience this. Lost data, crashing, etc.
Software is not compatible- new software causes trouble with older software
Installation of new hardware or software is buggy- the new installation doesn't work or complete, or the directions are confusing
Moving data and setting to a new computer. Email settings, Internet Service Provider settings, large data files, etc.
That's it for this issue... if you have a topic you would like me to discuss, just email me!
Until next time... Happy Computing !
